with approximately 1,567 inhabitants and an area of 22.60 square kilometers, this parish owes its name to a relative concentration of beech trees that once existed there. the parish of faial was established on february 20, 1550, by royal decree. some historians argue that, along with the parish of são jorge, this might have been one of the first parishes to be settled on the north coast of the island of madeira. located in this parish is this magnificent small farm with a breathtaking view of the sea and the lush and majestic mountains of the north coast of the island. on sunny days, one can even glimpse the distant island of porto santo.
