14th Century Convent with sea view
The Convent of São Saturnino, dating back to the 14th century, is a treasure located in a valley in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park nature reserve, next to the sea.
Restored at the beginning of this century, the Convent is an architectural complex characterized by a labyrinthine design of houses, nooks, terraces, viewpoints, with gardens on various levels, always with incredible views of the mountains and the sea.
The site is said to have been a place of worship to São Saturnino, which gave rise to the name of the Convent, and a chapel in Peninha, located at the top of the Sintra mountains, about an hour′s walk away.
It was rehabilitated in 1989, requiring new restoration work throughout the convent.
Being in the Convent is as if time had stopped, breathing history in every corner, surrounded by greenery and with the sea on the horizon.
The interior of the Convent is a constant surprise: we find countless small rooms, nooks, unlikely staircases, coffered ceilings, rooms between corridors, all different, full of character and charm. The Convent has 13 rooms, nine of which are en suite. Two of the rooms are located in a more private area of the Convent that functions as an apartment with a living room and private pool.
A second house located closer to the sea and away from the main building provides a refuge with complete privacy. It has 2 bedrooms with a support bathroom, a living room with a fireplace, a dining room and a kitchen.
A stream that starts in the Sintra mountains runs through the property between a small stone bridge and a wooden one. The Convent′s swimming pool is situated on a high point with a fantastic view of the sea. There is also a small chapel at the entrance to the Convent and disc-shaped stelae dating from the 13th century.
The property has an artesian well in addition to the running water of the small river.

It is located 20 minutes from Cascais, 10 minutes from Praia Grande and Guincho beaches and 40 minutes from Lisbon International Airport.
