Historic Maysville, one of the original small mining towns in the area, sits along the South Arkansas River and the North Fork of the South Arkansas River, with both lush greenbelts and arrid high country terrain, featuring mature Cottonwoods, Aspens and Pine trees. In the Spring, Summer and Fall the area is overrun with wild flowers and thick grasses within the watershed area, and sparse growth and cactus in the arrid sections. Located halfway between Salida and Monarch Mountain Ski Area, off Highway 50, it is well known for its many all-season recreational activities.
