it doesn’t take much imagination to call the nissan river halmstad’s counterpart to the river thames in london, the capital of great britain. an apartment along the floating lifeline of the world metropolis is among the most desirable accommodations possible, and a penthouse in halmstad’s exclusive district of nissastrand is certainly no exception. especially not when it looks like this elegant three-room apartment of just over one hundred square metres, right in the heart of it all.
outstanding at the highest level
let’s start outside: the generous rooftop terrace, with its south and west exposure, glass railing, and awning, is made for everything from early-bird breakfasts to sophisticated sunset cocktails. when the weather isn’t ideal, it’s cleverly arranged so you can instead enjoy the cosy enclosed sunroom, where the view is just as striking. here there are windows in every direction except one
welcome in – it’s open
step over the threshold into the very embodiment of what is usually described in these contexts as an “open floor plan.” let your feet touch the limestone tiles of the hallway, the same fresh flooring that can also be found in the bathroom and kitchen. directly adjacent to the hallway is the separately located laundry room, conveniently equipped with a cleaning cabinet and storage.
now it’s time to get acquainted with the rest of the apartment. first, the flooring: white-stained oak parquet in the living room and one of the bedrooms, and wall-to-wall carpet in the master bedroom. comfortable underfoot, easy to clean.
on either side of the hallway are the two bedrooms. the master bedroom – the main bedroom, that is – deserves a chapter of its own. luxurious to say the least. a view, of course. an elegant ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating, a glass-door shower, and heated towel rail. if it were a hotel suite, it would be awarded at least five stars. the so-called guest bedroom is slightly smaller in size, but on the other hand, it offers a bathtub in its own underfloor-heated bathroom. star-quality comfort and, here too, sunlight with views over the river and city.
at the next stop on our tour, we could say we’re tying it all together. the kitchen, dining area, and living room form a single open, sociable space, divided into the functions of cooking, eating, enjoying, and relaxing. in fact, all at once if you like. it’s also from here that you step out onto the adjoining terrace and sunroom.
in the exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, we encounter familiar names such as miele (70 cm induction hob, dishwasher, fridge & freezer) and gaggenau (oven and microwave). world-class quality. closest to the kitchen is space for a dining table and chairs, and at the far end of the trio we find the living room, where the crackling fireplace enhances the cosy atmosphere during the colder months of the year.
and for those of you wondering: the only direction without a view is east.
