in the beautiful hills of heredia sits this 12ha coffee farm with a main house and four smaller homes. surrounded by, and contributing to, the natural green, this estate enjoys the fresh air of the area, views of the surrounding volcanoes and to the central valley, and can continue to be used as a private residence with coffee production, or be further capitalized on in various ways.
the family-owned coffee operation is in its second generation, started over 40 years ago, is rainforest alliance certified, and rated nespresso aaa sustainable quality, benefiting from the rich volcanic soil, elevation (1200m/ 3900ft), and consistent fresh climate. about 75% of the property is dedicated to 8 different coffee varieties, and the remaining property includes fruit orchards, environmental corridors, and landscaped land around the homes. the coffee is shade-grown, in the shade of the poro and eucalyptus trees, which also benefit the nitrogen levels of the soil. coffee pickers have had a very low rotation in the past 15 years, and the original farm managers now have their children and grandchildren working on the farm, creating a strong sense of community and dedication to the farm and production of high-quality coffee.
the main house is an hacienda style home, and there are three further homes used as rental properties (and staff living quarters), enjoying the rural outskirts of a small satellite town of heredia, private and peaceful. this area is unique from other tourist-driven regions or towns of the country, and retains the rural ways of simpler times in costa rica, while being minutes from any of the necessary conveniences.
